DeviceMonitorEP v1.5

DeviceMonitorEP is a Windows NT/2000 service that will query the reachability status of network devices, and provides a graphical map of your network deployment so you can manage a large network from a map interface.

Rapid Installation and Configuration

The initial installation and configuration can be completed in under 10 minutes for virtually any sized network with the Quick Config Wizard. This wizard will scan your network and monitor all of the devices it discovers.

Rapid Re-Configuration when your Network Changes

When your network changes, and devices are added or removed, you can rapidly update your configuration using the Quick Config Wizard. It will detect new devices and include them in your configuration, and start monitoring again.

Monitoring Implemented as a Windows NT/2000 Service

As a service, DeviceMonitorEP provides benefits over console based monitoring tools:

  • You don't have to be logged in to the console for monitoring to occur
  • Desktop resources (real estate and system tray space) on the console are not used

Variety of Different Outputs

DeviceMonitorEP has a number of different outputs that can help you monitor your network:

  • Web pages are generated so you can check the status of devices from any browser.
  • DeviceMonitorEP offers a graphical map web interface. Any GIF, JPG, or PNG graphic can be used to display your network: campus map, building layout, or geographic representation. Maps included: Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, and World
  • A built-in webserver makes it easy to set up
  • WAP pages are updated so you can check the status of devices from WAP enabled cell phones and PDAs
  • A built-in WAPserver makes it easy to set up

Alerts are Sent in a Variety of Forms

When a device changes status, alerts can be sent to the following destinations:

  • Windows network messages
  • Fully customizable email messages (can be sent to alpha-numeric pagers)
  • Event Log entries
  • Text log files
  • Syslog messages

The web pages include a web-based "console" that can be used to monitor all of the devices. The browser can be loaded on multiple workstations, so administrators from different locations can view the device status.

DeviceMonitorEP web pages can be viewed from any standard browser.

The browser will refresh its display every 30 seconds by default. If a device changes status, an alert sound will be played through the browser, and the specific device that changed will be highlighted.

If the browser loses connectivity with the DeviceMonitorEP server, it will continue to attempt to connect to the DeviceMonitorEP server so you do not need to "retry" to connect to the server if there is a momentary loss of connectivity.

You can sort each column in the display by clicking on the column title.

If you desire to have printed reports of your devices, click on "Print Report", and the browser will be instructed to print a report (sorted by the same column that the web page is currently displaying).
